Legal battle against €800k unpaid tax bill, Owing money would stop him taking Dail seat

- PAUL HEALY

GERRY Hutch has launched a legal battle against the Criminal Assets Bureau over a finding of €800,000 in unpaid tax.

This paper has learned that The Monk, 62, has recently applied to the Tax Appeals Commission to try and have the claim thrown out.

It is understood Hutch's legal team attended a hearing with the commission, where he's appealing a finding that he owes large sums from 2006 and 2010.

The CAB finding is a significant impediment to Hutch, who would need to be tax-compliant should he win a Dail seat in the upcoming Dublin Central by-election in May.

It is understood Hutch has asked for disclosure from Revenue and CAB, showing why it has alleged he owes hundreds of thousands in unpaid tax.
