Child hauled from rubble after Israel airstrike kills 35 in Gaza community

RESCUERS pulled a child from the rubble yesterday after a single Israeli attack on a community killed 35 people, including three children.

Eighty Palestinians were missing and a further 50 were injured as the early morning strike on al-Shujayea in Gaza City hit an area of around 20 homes, burying residents under the rubble.

Last night, emergency services were joined by locals who dug with their bare hands to try to find survivors.

Reporters on the ground said most of the victims were women and children, and hospitals were being overwhelmed with the injured. Elsewhere in Gaza a further 10 were killed, bringing yesterday's death toll to 45.
