'Hand of Frog' joins soccer's Hall of shame

IT'S second only to Saipan in the Green Army's most traumatic episodes and now the so-called "Hand of Frog" goal has been officially recognised.

The blatant handball in 2009 by the then Barcelona striker led to William Gallas’ equaliser at the Stade de France and cancelled out Robbie Keane' glorious opener.

The 1-1 draw in the World Cup qualifier playoff, coupled with our 1-0 loss in Dublin, sent us out on aggregate and led to the matter being raised in the Dail.

On a global level, it is widely viewed as the moment the need for VAR was realised by football authorities.

Henry's handball came sixth on the list of the 20 most unforgettable moments of soccer history.

The list was headed by Diego Maradona’s equally infamous “Hand of God” score against England in 1986.
