Saints now meet Dingle in All-Ireland

- BY PADDY TIERNEY

ST BRIGID'S progressed to a second All-Ireland Club SFC final appearance in three seasons with a hard-fought four-point win over Scotstown in baltic conditions at Kingspan Breffni yesterday.

The pitch passed three inspections prior to throw-in but the mercury barely rose above zero degrees at any time with the goalmouth at one end frozen completely solid.

It was no surprise then that the game threw up ample goal opportunities and Scotstown will rue their missed chances for the remainder of the winter months and beyond.

Ruaidhrí Fallon was in the right place to deny Darren Hughes a certain goal after Conor Carroll had made a stunning reflex save from Shane Carey at the start of the second half.

Jack McCarron was also denied by Sean Trundle in the final minutes as St Brigid’s held on for a deserved, albeit nervy, victory.

After losing out to Glen in 2024, Anthony Cunningham was delighted to see his side secure a return to Croke Park and a meeting with Dingle on Sunday, January 18.

"Some of the blocks were outstanding - it was a tremendous defensive display," he said.
