THE stadium where Diego Maradona scored his "Hand of God" goal against England is having a major facelift ahead of next year's Fifa World Cup.

Mexico's legendary Estadio Azteca, which was also the scene of Pele's Brazil lifting their third Jules Rimet Trophy in 1970, has been gutted for the revamp.

The stadium's capacity will be increased from 81,000 to 90,000 as it prepares to become the first ground to host the opening game of a World Cup for a third time when Mexico kick off their campaign there on June 11, 2026.
