Camogie ace vows Cork won't wear skorts in Munster Final

- BY DANNY DE VAAL and LOUISE BURNE Political Correspondent

CAMOGIE ace Ashling Thompson insisted Cork will wear shorts in a crunch final as the rebellion against skorts ramps up.

Camogie Association rules insist on players wearing skorts, a skirt with a pair of integral shorts hidden underneath, during games.

But many maintain the garment is uncomfortable and deter girls from taking up the sport.

Over the weekend, a Leinster senior semi-final match between Dublin and Kilkenny was almost called off after players wore shorts as a protest.

Now Cork players will refuse to comply with the dress code in Saturday's Munster senior camogie final.

The All-Ireland champions are due to play Waterford in The Ragg, Co Tipperary.

And Thompson insists they won't back down even if it risks the game being abandoned.

The six-time All-Ireland winner said: "What we're going to do is wear shorts and if we're asked to return to the dressing room we won't.

TITLE

"If that means abandoning the game and handing over the Munster title to Waterford, that's what we'll do.
