Iconic piece of history goes under the hammer

ONE of the most iconic items from the Titanic has sold at auction for a record breaking €2million.

The 18-carat gold Jules Jurgensen pocket watch was worn by first-class passenger Isidor Straus when the liner sank on its maiden voyage on April 14, 1912. It was recovered from his body and later returned to his son Jessie.

Isidor's loving wife Ida, 63, was offered a place on a lifeboat but she refused to leave the side of her husband of more than 40 years.
