The U.S. strike on Iran fuelled fears that Israel's war with Tehran could escalate to a wider regional conflict, and other countries began reacting on Sunday (June 22, 2025) with calls for diplomacy and words of caution.U.S. President Donald Trump had said on Thursday (June 19) that he would decide within two weeks whether to get involved.

In the end, it took just days to decide, and Washington inserted itself into Israel's campaign with its early Sunday attack. Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi took to X and added, “The United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave violation of the U.N. Charter, international law and the NPT by attacking Iran’s peaceful nuclear installations.”“*The events this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences. Each and every member of the U.N. must be alarmed over this extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behavior.” he said.He further added, “In accordance with the U.N. Charter and its provisions allowing a legitimate response in self-defence, Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest, and people.”Applauding U.S. President Donald Trump's “bold decision” to hit Iran’s nuclear facilities, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that it demonstrated “peace through strength” and will lead to a future of peace and prosperity in the region and beyond. “Your [Trump's] bold decision to target Iran's nuclear facilities with the awesome and righteous might of the United States will change history,” Mr. Netanyahu said.
