He made these remarks at the launch of a mega oil palm plantation drive held on Saturday in Anjanapuram village, Konijerla Mandal, accompanied by District Collector Anudeep Durishetty and Wyra MLA Ramdas Naik. Dr N V Prasad, an agricultural scientist, addressed farmers queries and highlighted precautions for nurturing oil palm saplings. Minister Tummala stressed the need for swift implementation of drip irrigation systems for oil palm growers and urged officials to promote the crop by explaining its benefits and expanding its cultivation area. He instructed that planting pits must be dug two feet deep and only quality saplings from nurseries should be distributed to farmers. He also directed the complete rectification of nursery deficiencies and recommended regular inspections by agricultural officers to ensure plant quality. He announced that the palm oil factory must commence operations by November without fail and urged for completion of the refinery locally to ensure employment and income generation for both the government and farmers. He assured government support for setting up a seed factory, citing that no such facility currently exists in the country.
