NEIL HANDING OVER A 'MUSEUM ROOM' OF MEMORABILIA FOR PUBLIC DISPLAY
AN East Yorkshire man who has spent 20 years researching his grandfather's "largely overlooked" regiment is handing over a "museum room" of memorabilia for public display and has published three books on the subject.
Neil Hutty, of Cottingham, converted an attic room to hold all the items he had collected over two decades. He also recently saw his three-volume history of the East Riding Yeomanry, spanning the years 1902 to 1956, released by Driffield-based Leonaur Books.
With thoughts of downsizing, Neil was in a quandary as to what to do with his collection of uniforms and artefacts, intending to "sell it off at some point." Neil said: "My wife said it would be a shame to break it up - I'd spent the last year seeing if someone would be willing to display my little museum somewhere else.
"Now Burton Constable Hall has agreed to take it. It will be for a year but I am hoping that might become its permanent residence.
"They are looking at opening the collection in time for the VE Day anniversary in May. They have just taken off the fabrics because they have to be frozen before being taken into the house in case of any bugs."
