JOE FELT PRESSURE

Hull Daily Mail

JOE Gelhardt has revealed how he felt the weight of pressure on his shoulders when he stepped up to take his first Hull City penalty against Preston on Monday.

JOE FELT PRESSURE

City were a goal down and heading into the bottom three when he was fouled by Mads Frokjaer early in the second half. Despite goalkeeper David Cornell getting a strong hand to it, the ball nestled in the bottom corner to level it up.

From then on, the hosts were on the front foot and took the lead when Kyle Joseph was fouled and Gelhardt stepped up to fire into the opposite corner to cap a terrific turnaround and, arguably, their most significant win of the season.

Gelhardt says Ruben Selles' halftime team talk was largely centred around encouraging his players to believe they could come from behind, and it worked.

"Usually, we go in and try to amend tactics, but they weren't like that," the 22-year-old said.

"It was more like, 'Come on lads, let's go and give them a proper game' and we went out there, we started strong, we were making more runs, we were pressing harder and we got rewarded for it, so credit to the lads."
