The rise and rise of Revanth: From ABVP cadre to CM face of Congress

54-year-old Anumula Revanth Reddy was appointed president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president in July 2021. He took a circuitous route to the position.
He cut his teeth in politics as part of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) - the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) before becoming a legislator from N Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party. The task ahead of him was gargantuan; K Chandrashekhar Rao (popularly called KCR) had cemented himself as chief minister of Telangana, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was rising, having performed exceedingly well in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Council polls, winning an assembly bye election, with four of its legislators in the state legislature.
Cut to December 2023, and through a combination of deft handling within the party, uniting warring factions and clearing out deadwood, and extensive outreach among the people, Reddy has now engineered a stirring Congress win, and may be on the cusp of becoming chief minister of the decade-old state.
