PWD set to undertake repairs on Rohtak Road
Hindustan Times
|November 18, 2024
Delhi's Public Works Department (PWD) is set to undertake the restoration and repair of Rohtak Road, an arterial stretch connecting the Capital with Haryana, which has been described as the "worst road of the city".
An 18-year-old truck helper was killed in a hit-and-run accident after a truck collided with the vehicle he was accompanying on the Rajokri flyover in Delhi late Saturday. The truck driver, the deceased's employer, sustained injuries, while the accused driver fled the scene but was arrested on Sunday, police said. The deceased was later identified as Samir Shah, a resident of Firozabad.
DCP (southwest) Surendra Choudhary said the accused, identified as Imran Khan, was speeding and applied emergency brakes, leading to the collision. "Due to this, Khan's truck collided with the one Shah was in. Khan must have fled fearing arrest," he said.
The police control room received a call about the accident but found the injured had already been taken to an unknown hospital. A medico-legal case from Civil Hospital in Gurugram confirmed Shah's death. His body was handed over to his family after an autopsy at Safdarjung Hospital, police said.
A case has been lodged against Khan for rash driving and causing death by negligence under BNSS. Police are now probing if Khan was intoxicated during the incident.
Officials associated with the project said that the repair work on a 10km, six-lane road will take place in two phases, and bids have been invited for each.
In the first phase, officials said, PWD—the infrastructure arm of the Delhi government—will repair and re-carpet damaged patches of the road under a ₹3.3 crore project which is expected to take one month.
