'LA wildfires more devastating due to climate change'

The devastating Los Angeles wildfires were made 35% more likely by climate change compared to conditions without human-caused warming, according to a new analysis by 32 climate scientists under World Weather Attribution.

The study found that hot, dry and windy conditions driving the fires were significantly influenced by global warming caused primarily by fossil fuel use. Scientists projected these fire-prone conditions would become another 35% more likely if warming reaches 2.6°C by century's end.

Low rainfall from October to December is now about 2.4 times more likely compared to the preindustrial climate.

The fire season has extended by approximately 23 extra days annually, increasing risks during peak Santa Ana winds.
