Injuries not consistent with our weapons: Cops

The autopsy reports of four people killed in Sunday's Sambhal clashes indicate bullet wounds inconsistent with the ammunition used by Uttar Pradesh Police, divisional commissioner Aunjaneya Kumar Singh said on Tuesday.

His statement comes amid allegations that police firing caused the deaths.

No bullets were recovered from the bodies during the postmortem examinations, Singh added.

While the autopsy reports of the deceased Ayan, Bilal, Naeem and Kaif - were not made public, the administration extended the internet ban in the area for another 24 hours till 4am on Wednesday.

An uneasy calm prevailed under heavy security deployment.

A local police official, who asked not to be named, said all the victims had exit wounds, which explained why bullets were not found. Citing the reports, he said Ayan suffered an abdominal bullet wound damaging his liver, while the other three were wounded in the chest.
