The gut is famously called the second brain. Despite the title, it remains one of the most underrated and misunderstood systems of the human body. As December is marked as Constipation Awareness Month, we take a look at the lesser-known causes for gastrointestinal (GI) issues and how winter calls for extra care.

Approximately 12% of the world's population - from across age groups reports of self defined constipation, according to the National Library of Medicine.

These cases have especially surged after the Covid-19 pandemic, researchers at the Washington University School of Medicine and the Veterans Affairs St. Louis Health Care have found.
