Building plan nod likely to get costlier in south Delhi

Constructing new residential buildings in south and east Delhi areas will get costlier with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi planning to levy the compensatory regulatory charges - a fee that was only imposed earlier by the erstwhile North Delhi Municipal Corporation.

The compensatory regulatory charges are collected at the time of approving new building plans for developing civic infrastructure.

MCD commissioner Gyanesh Bharti proposed to levy the charges across Delhi on September 5. Bharti argued that similar charges were levied by civic bodies in several other cities such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune and Nagpur for development and maintenance of facilities such as drainage.

Before their unification in May last year, Delhi was governed by three separate municipal bodies with areas under their jurisdiction having disparate levies and tax rates. For example, the North MCD levied ₹500 for issuing health trade licence hotels and restaurants while the same was ₹65,000 under South MCD.
