BSF jawan killed as Pak again violates ceasefire in Jammu

A head constable of the Border Security Force (BSF) was killed after Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing through automatic weapons along the International Border in Samba district of Jammu, prompting the Indian forces to retaliate, officials said on Thursday.

The ceasefire violation a third in 24 days - by Pakistan Rangers took place at Narayanpur post in Ramgarh sector at 11.59pm on Wednesday, triggering panic among villagers in the area. "During night intervening 8/9 Nov 2023, Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing in Ramgarh area which was befittingly responded by BSF troops," a BSF spokesperson in New Delhi said.

Later, in a statement, the BSF said, "one personnel succumbed to injuries received in the unprovoked firing". The deceased was identified as Lal Fam Kima of 148 battalion. He is a resident of Durtlang locality in Aizawl.

Officials said Kima was first evacuated to the Ramnagar community health centre in a 'Rakshak' vehicle (bullet proof vehicle) from where he was rushed to a military hospital in Satwari. However, he succumbed to injuries on the way and was declared dead at the military hospital at around 2.30am, the officials added.
