Mother, Son Killed as Truck Carrying Iron Rods Overturns

A road accident claimed the lives of a woman and her son near Goharni Chowk on the Saharanpur-Meerut-Karnal highway in Shamli district, on Monday.
MEERUT:
The victims, identified as Rekha Singh (45) and her 24-year-old son Umang, were killed instantly when a heavily loaded truck lost control and overturned on them.
According to the police, the two had stopped by the roadside to drink sugarcane juice when the speeding truck, carrying over 100 quintals of iron rods, veered off the road. In an attempt to avoid a car coming from Badhev, the driver lost control.
