Once used by US retailers to signal a profit day, it now brings a rush of flash sales, and a spike in cybercrime, as scammers use fake listings and sites to lure deal-hunting shoppers.
HOW TO AVOID BLACK FRIDAY SCAMS
• Double-check website URLs before you buy
• Be cautious of new or unverified websites and pages
• Read reviews and buy only from authorised sellers
• Enable two-step verification and use strong passwords
• Never share personal or banking details through links or popups
