Speaker Raps Govt Over Siramtoli Flyover Issue

Speaker Rabindranath Mahto on Friday directed officials to ensure that the construction of the Siramtoli flyover in the state capital does not impact the Sarhul festival, the largest annual religious event of the tribal community.

The direction came after two senior Congress legislators, Rameshwar Oraon and parliamentary affairs minister Radhakrishna Kishore, raised the issue in the House and sought a ruling from the Speaker.

The Congress legislators raised the issue as hundreds of men and women formed a human chain on the route to the Jharkhand assembly, holding placards and seeking the state government's attention to their demand to stop the construction of the flyover.

"You must have seen a human chain on the way to the assembly. A flyover is being constructed in Siramtoli, where one of the most sacred places of the tribal community is located. On Sarhul, processions from across Ranchi assemble in Siramtoli. This flyover would affect that. This is a matter related to the faith of the tribal community, which should not be affected in any way, especially when we have an Abua Sarkar in the state," said Oraon, senior Congress legislator and former finance minister.
