RANCHI: The administration of the Ranchi district conducted a civil mock drill at Doranda on Wednesday in line with guidelines laid out by the Union home ministry as part of the nationwide 'Operation Abhyaas' for potential security threats in light of rising tensions with Pakistan.

According to the officials, the drill began at 4 pm and continued until 7 pm. It included a detailed briefing session for police administrative officers and National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets at the police line.

Ranchi deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri, who is also the district magistrate and district disaster officer, and city DIG-cum-senior superintendent of police (SSP) Chandan Sinha, addressed the participants, explaining their roles and responsibilities during the exercise. They emphasised the importance of adhering to the Union home ministry's guidelines for disaster management.

Throughout the drill, DC Bhajantri monitored activities, visiting different locations to ensure that all teams performed their tasks correctly. SSP Sinha, meanwhile, used a microphone to provide continuous instructions, urging residents to remain indoors and report any injuries for immediate assistance, officials said.

Why courts need to be compassionate to strays

It is quite the irony that while Aloka— the Indian stray dog adopted by a band of Buddhists monks —is being cheered worldwide for walking thousands of miles in the US alongside the monks in their march for global peace, his counterparts in India are being subjected to cruelty by the very institutions that should protect them.
