Rescue teams race against time to find miners trapped in Assam

The Indian Army initiated a rescue mission on Tuesday to locate miners trapped in a flooded coal mine in the remote "3 Kilo" area of Dima Hasao near the Assam-Meghalaya border.

At 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the first response team from the 32 Assam Rifles Pathfinder Unit reached the site of the incident. Their primary task was to conduct an initial assessment of the situation and begin coordinating the initial response to the disaster.

The Indian Army dispatched an Engineer Task Force (ETF) under the Commanding Officer of an Engineer Regiment to provide vital support. The ETF, accompanied by PARA diving specialists, reached the mine site in a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) mission.

Dima Hasao superintendent of police (SP) Mayank Kumar Jha said that several people were feared trapped inside the coal mine. "Several people feared trapped inside a coal mine in the Umrangso area in the Dima Hasao district. We can't say the exact figure as of now," he said.
