PM Modi Arrives in Canada for G7 Meet, Key Bilaterals on Anvil

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to join leaders of the G7 countries for discussions on pressing economic and security issues and to hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of Canada, Germany, Italy and Ukraine on Tuesday.

NEW DELHI/CALGARY:

Modi arrived in the remote Canadian town of Kananaskis early on Tuesday (Indian standard time) to participate in the outreach session of the G7 Summit after visiting Cyprus. Much of the focus on Modi's engagements in Kananaskis is on his first meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, which is being seen as an opportunity to reset bilateral ties after a prolonged diplomatic spat over the killing of a Khalistani separatist.

On his arrival in Calgary, Modi posted on X, "Landed in Calgary, Canada, to take part in the G7 Summit. Will be meeting various leaders at the Summit and sharing my thoughts on important global issues. Will also be emphasizing the priorities of the Global South."

Modi received a ceremonial welcome at the Calgary airport. India's acting high commissioner, Chinmoy Naik, was among those who received him.
