JAIPUR: Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not attending the all-party meeting in Delhi on Thursday to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, while former CM Ashok Gehlot said that there is a "need to stay united to save our democracy and Constitution in this difficult time".

Speaking at a rally, "Save Constitution", in Jaipur, the Congress leader said, "It is unfortunate that the PM was making his election speech in Bihar when the entire country is mourning the loss in the Pahalgam terror attack. Leaders of all parties attended the all-party meeting which took place in Delhi, but Modi did not come. Was Delhi so far from Bihar? It is a blow to the pride of our country. He should have come and explained us about his strategy and plan ahead to deal with this situation."

Further criticising the PM and BJP, Kharge said that this is a time when everybody is required to stay united. "Soon after the incident, we called a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and decided that an all-party meeting should be held. We decided that we will stand by every action of the government in this difficult time," he said.

Kharge hit out at the PM saying, "You should remember that the nation always comes first and then comes religion, and parties. In this country, the Constitution is supreme and our democracy runs under the Constitution. It is a crucial time when everyone should stay united. But, even now, BJP is talking about dividing it."
