HC quashes awaiting posting orders, frames rules to curb misuse

The Rajasthan high court on Friday quashed the awaiting posting orders (APO) issued to several government employees, observing that such orders cannot be used as a substitute for disciplinary action.

The court further framed comprehensive guidelines to prevent the misuse of the provision under Rule 25-A of the Rajasthan Service Rules, 1951.

A single bench of justice Arun Monga delivered the judgment while disposing of a batch of petitions filed by employees from various departments challenging their placement under APO without proper justification.

The petitioners contended that they were arbitrarily placed under APO without being assigned any work, either due to political interference or administrative mala fides, causing them humiliation at their workplaces.
