The planned impasse at the legislative houses is not justified but a danger to the democracy, the Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla stated on Saturday during the launching ceremony of the constitution club in Rajasthan's Jaipur.

JAIPUR:

"The legislative houses are not a platform for personal accusations and blaming. Nowadays, the impasse at the houses is being done plan-fully. Such planned impasse is not justified. It is a danger to the democracy. No matter what, the members should try to continue the proceeding of the houses. When the 8 Crore people of a state are sending you in this house to represent their voices, you should see how to strengthen the democracy in this house," Birla said during the event.

Birla's statement also came days after a six-day-long dharna by the Congress MLAs at the state assembly following the Social Justice and Welfare Minister Avinash Gehlot called the former Prime Minister and Congress stalwart Indra Gandhi 'Dadi' while responding to a question during the session on February 21.

After a stark uproar by the Congress MLAs over the remark, the speaker Vasudev Devnani had also suspended six of the opposition MLAs including the Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra, The Deputy Leader of Opposition Ramkesh Meena, Ameen Kagazi, Sanjay Kumar, Haqueem Ali Khan, and Zakeer Hussain Gausavat.

However, the suspension was also revoked on February 27 after the intervention of the Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma himself.
