18-Yr-Old JEE Aspirant Dies by Suicide in Kota

An 18-year-old student preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission to undergraduate engineering courses was found dead in a suspected case of suicide in Kota, police said on Monday, making it the 10th such incident in the coaching hub this year.

Last year, 20 students preparing for various competitive examinations died by suicide in the district.

Kota GRP police station assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Dharma Singh said that the student's body was found on a railway track near the Kota railway station on Sunday night. The victim, a resident of Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, had arrived in Kota two years ago to prepare for JEE and was staying at a hostel in the city's Rajeev Gandhi Nagar area.

"Prima facie, he jumped before the train. But, no suicide note was recovered from him," the ASI said, adding that a probe was underway to ascertain whether the student was under any stress or any behavioural changes were noticed by his classmates over the last few days.
