The Uttar Pradesh government has declared the Maha Kumbh Mela area a "no-vehicle zone," set up road diversions and deployed heavy security as it prepares an elaborate plan to deal with the massive influx of pilgrims expected to attend the final "Amrit Snan" (royal bath) on the occasion of Mahashivratri on Wednesday.

February 26 marks both the conclusion of the Maha Kumbh Mela and the festival of Mahashivratri. According to a senior police officer, over 25 million devotees are expected in Prayagraj on Wednesday. Additionally, over 1.2 million devotees are expected in Varanasi and over 800,000 in Ayodhya while returning from Maha Kumbh, the officer said.
