AIMIM Likely to Go Solo in Upcoming Bihar Polls

Hindustan Times Patna

July 02, 2025

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) of Asaduddin Owaisi has hinted that it would contest the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar alone as there is no indication from the Opposition's INDIA bloc, or the Grand Alliance (GA) to adjust the Muslim-centric party.

- Aditya Nath Jha

PURNIA:

The party had contested the 2020 elections solo and won five seats leaving an impactful mark, especially in the Seemanchal region.

Its leaders signal that the AIMIM can even work to float a third front with smaller outfits like Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj.

The AIMIM is known for its berserk stance against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Owaisi himself leads from the front by addressing rallies in all key Muslim-dominated areas.

The party was said to be in talks with GA constituents, notably RJD, to be included in GA so that there would be no split in the Muslim votes. However, talks didn't go through.

Speaking to Hindustan Times over phone, AIMIM Bihar president Akhtarul Iman, said, "Despite approaching the GA constituents with a proposal to contest the elections together against the NDA and BJP, we have received no response from them."
