The main political parties in Bihar have expelled close to 60 leaders ahead of the two-phase assembly elections next month, indicating that these rebels and dissenters could play a key role in case polls see a close contest between the National Democratic Alliance and the Grand Alliance.

On October 26, the Janata Dal (United) expelled 16 leaders, including Gopalpur MLA Narendra Neeraj alias Gopal Mandal, former MLA Maheshwar Prasad Yadav, former MLC Sanjeev Shyam Singh, and former minister Himraj Singh. Mandal had protested outside CM's residence following denial of ticket and filed nomination as independent. Sanjeev Shyam Singh is contesting on the Jan Suraj Party ticket from Garuda seat in Gaya, while Himraj Singh is contesting from Katihar as an independent.
