|November 10, 2025
Australia has imported millions of tonnes of Russian oil since 2023 by exploiting a loophole in sanctions on Russian crude, new data shows, The Guardian reported on Sunday.
Australia has not directly bought fuel from Russia since the invasion of Ukraine, but a loophole in sanctions allows it to import the crude via third countries, The Guardian reported.
Since 2023, at least 3 million tonnes of Russian-originating oil products have been imported into Australia, the Europe-based Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (Crea) has found.
