₹8.8K-crore for Skill India, 3-yr extension to sanitation scheme

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved an allocation of ₹8,800 crore to strengthen the Skill India Programme through multiple schemes aimed at young people, extended the tenure of the national commission for sanitation workers till March 2028, and approved the creation of the South Coast Railway Zone, Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Friday.

Sharing details of the Skill India Programme, Vaishnaw said that three key schemes — PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0, PM National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme, and Jan Shikshan Sansthan for Skill Development — were given a boost.
"The Prime Minister has always focused on creating opportunities for the youth. In the Cabinet today, the Skill India Programme has got a new approval of ₹8800 crore. There is a focus on convergence between different sectors. In 2014, after taking charge, PM Modi had started the skill development ministry. There has always been a resolve to improve it based on learnings and experience," he said.
