'Have faith': Mamata to Muslims on Waqf
Hindustan Times Lucknow
|April 10, 2025
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that Muslims were aggrieved because of the enactment of the Waqf (Amendment) Act and assured the community that she would protect them and their properties in the state.
KOLKATA: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that Muslims were aggrieved because of the enactment of the Waqf (Amendment) Act and assured the community that she would protect them and their properties in the state.
She also appealed to the Muslim community not to fall for any provocation.
"I want to say something to the minority people. You have been hurt by the Waqf property issue. Have faith. Nothing will happen in Bengal that will lead to divide and rule. You only send the message that all will live as one. Live and let live," Banerjee said at an event held in Kolkata on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti.
Her comments came even as a violent agitation rocked Murshidabad district, three days after President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent to the bill that seeks to implement sweeping changes in the regulation and management of Islamic charitable endowments.
