Govt ran bulldozer over MGNREGS, says Sonia

Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday accused the Narendra Modi-led government of attacking the interests of the poor by "running a bulldozer" over Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), and asserted that she and her party would fight against the "black law" that seeks to repeal it.

The Parliament on Friday approved the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) or VB-G RAM G, bill, which seeks to replace the two-decade-old MGNREGS amid fierce protest by opposition parties, who have criticised the removal of Mahatma Gandhi's name and alleged dilution the spirit of employment guarantee by shifting a greater financial burden onto states. The bill awaits clearance from the President.
