Max rises above 30°C, min into single digits

A clear blue sky and a variable wind direction meant Monday was a day of contrasts for Delhi, with the city's minimum temperature dropping sharply to settle in single digits, even as the day's high crossed the 30-degree mark, translating into a difference of more than 20 notches in the day's maximum and minimum.

However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in the coming days, the north Indian plains will record cold, northwesterly winds, which will likely lead to a dip in the maximum temperature in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) from Tuesday onwards.

The minimum temperature on Monday at the Safdarjung observatory — Delhi's base weather station — was 9.6 degrees Celsius (°C), which is four notches below normal. It was 14.2°C a day earlier, making it a dip of nearly five degrees Celsius across most stations.

The maximum meanwhile rose by 4-5°C at most stations, with Safdarjung recording a high of 31.1°C — four notches above normal. It was 27°C a day earlier.
