At 96, the once crumbling Lahori Gate Haveli now stands restored in the bustling market square near Chandni Chowk.

- Paras Singh

NEW DELHI: After years of delays, the two-storey heritage structure has completed its conservation and was opened for a preview on Thursday. It is set to house the Shahjahanabad museum and an interpretation centre, former Union minister Vijay Goel said.

The restoration was executed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), with funding support from Goel and various MPs through MPLAD funds. The next phase—setting up exhibits, audio-visual rooms, and a cafeteria—will be completed over the next year, he added.

The Haveli, originally a traditional private mansion built in 1929, overlooks a square where lanes from Khari Baoli, Sadar Bazar, and Old Delhi Railway Station converge. Over the years, it was used as a municipal dispensary and later became a storehouse for spice market merchants, civic officials said.
