The Professor, Who Headed a Department at the College Was Suspended from the Post on Saturday

- HT Correspondent

AGRA: A 59-year-old college professor was arrested from Prayagraj late on Wednesday night, police officials said on Thursday, a week after he was booked for sexually assaulting students at the private college in Hathras.

The professor, who headed a department at the Seth Phool Chand Bagla PG College before he was suspended from the post on Saturday, was apprehended from Subhash Chowk in the Civil Lines area of Prayagraj, the officials said.

"Three police teams were on the hunt for the accused. His mobile was switched off but continuous surveillance and police action resulted in his arrest," Hathras superintendent of police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said.

"The accused was planning to get anticipatory bail from the Allahabad high court but was nabbed before he could act on the plan," Sinha said. "In case someone is found assisting the accused professor, they will be brought to book."
