NDMA to Give Aid to State to Curb Forest Fires in 7 Uttarakhand Districts

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will provide funds to check forest fires in seven districts of the state - Pauri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Champawat, Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal and Almora, according to an official.

Nishant Verma, additional principal chief conservator of forests and state nodal officer for forest fires, said that a detailed plan highlighting measures for forest fire mitigation, readiness for prompt response, and strategies for post-fire evaluation and recovery will be sent to the NDMA for approval.

"Under the scheme, the NDMA has chosen forest fire-sensitive districts of 19 states across the country and seven districts of the state to aid in forest fire management. These districts are Pauri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Champawat, Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, and Almora. The forest department will prepare a preliminary project report (PPR) under the scheme and send it to the NDMA," he said after the meeting held on April 11 to discuss the Annual Plan of Operation (APO) of Mitigation Scheme for Forest Fire Risk Management under the chairmanship of Dhananjai Mohan, Uttarakhand's head of forest force.
