Light rain lashes plains; snowfall in upper reaches

Light to moderate rainfall lashed most places of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Dehradun, Pauri, Almora, Champawat, and Nainital districts, while isolated areas in the higher reaches, including Gangotri, Harsil, Kedarnath and Badrinath witnessed a light spell of snow in the last 24 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Dehradun, said on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in Bageshwar, the authorities rescued eight members of a family after a house collapsed due to heavy rain in Sailani village on Friday.

Bikram Singh, director IMD Dehradun, said, "A moderate spell of snow is likely in the areas above 3,200 metres from March 15 to 17 due to western disturbance active in the area while thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds is likely at isolated places in all 13 districts on Sunday. After that dry weather will prevail for next three days."
