Forest dept clears US Nagar encroachments

The forest department has removed encroachments and taken possession of 40-hectare land at Gandhi Khatta in Judka village under Kashipur block in US Nagar district.
RUDRAPUR: During the drive, 150 personnel of seven forest ranges were deployed along with the local police on Sunday, officials familiar with the matter said on Monday.
"We took 40-hectare land into possession and have dug a trench around the land. Fencing will be erected there and plantation of the plants from various species will be carried out in monsoon season," said Manish Joshi, sub-divisional officer, forest, Ramnagar.
Officials said around 40-hectare land at Gandhi Khatta in Judka village near Terai-west forest division was under the encroachment of mining mafia. They used to dig soil from there. On Wednesday, when the forest personnel went there to dig the trench for a boundary, around 35 people suddenly attacked them with swords and lathis for digging the trench. They hurled stones on them, the SDO said.
