Develop Ways To Minimise Loss In Disasters: Dhami

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday directed officials to develop a mechanism for monitoring avalanches so that loss in such cases is minimised.

MUSSOORIE: The Chamoli district administration has restricted tourists from entering Auli, the skiing destination of the district, on Monday following the avalanche alert from the Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE).

DGRE authorities, in its avalanche alert released on Monday at 1 p.m., said that an avalanche with a medium danger level is likely to occur above 2,500 m over Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi and Pithoragarh in the next 24 hours, officials said.

Chandrashekhar Vashisht, sub-divisional magistrate of Jyotirmath, said, "In the wake of the weather forecast predicting an avalanche and bad weather on Monday and Tuesday, the district administration has taken precautionary measures by restricting tourists from entering the ski resort of Auli until Monday. The situation will be reviewed further, and a decision on removing the restrictions will be made based on the weather report for the district."
