SC tasks Dehradun's FRI to improve Delhi's green cover

The Supreme Court on Monday appointed the Dehradun-based Forest Research Institute (FRI) to devise an action plan with specific timelines to enhance the Capital's green cover.
NEW DELHI:
Not happy with steps taken by the Delhi government's forest department to protect trees in the city, a bench headed by justice Abhay S Oka said, "Our earlier orders have showed that hardly anything concrete was done by the forest department of government of national capital territory of Delhi (GNCTD). It is necessary for us to appoint an expert agency to prepare an action plan to enhance green cover in Delhi."
The bench, also comprising justice Ujjal Bhuyan, said, "We appoint FRI as the agency to prepare an action plan for enhancing green cover, including a massive afforestation drive to increase tree cover."
