SC IN FAVOUR OF APPOINTING SPECIAL PUBLIC PROSECUTOR IN CASE AGAINST MIN

The Supreme Court on Wednesday favoured appointing a special public prosecutor for the trial against former Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji in the cash-for-jobs scam observing that in a case involving a powerful politician, there is a public perception that a prosecutor appointed by government may not be allowed to do justice.
The court was hearing a petition filed by victims of the scam who were not satisfied with the order of the Madras high court passed in March clubbing four charge sheets against the former minister into a single case. With more than 2000 persons named as accused, over 900 witnesses and 98,000 pages of documents to be put to trial, the victims had sought appointme
