Maduro team asserts control as US vows to run Venezuela

The Venezuelan regime's top leaders dug in their heels on Saturday, vowing to defy US pressure even as President Donald Trump said his administration would take control of the country to usher in a new government, Bloomberg reported.

“We can't take a chance that somebody else takes over Venezuela that doesn’t have the good of the Venezuelan people in mind,” Trump said on Saturday. “We're going to stay until such time as the proper transition can take place.”

Trump added that Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has said she is ready to work with Washington, AFP reported. Trump said that Secretary of State Marco Rubio “just had a conversation with her, and she’s essentially willing to do what we think is necessary to make Venezuela great again.”
