India's real estate surges on demand, and reforms, reshaping growth and urban living
-
India's real estate industry is poised to become one of the highest GDP contributors by the end of FY 25-26, providing an impetus to the country's emerging socioeconomic trend.
The highest employment generator, after agriculture, the real estate industry is at an advantage point after many years owing to increasing demand and buying capacity, government policy support, enhanced investment and attractive investment opportunities. A continuously evolving sector, real estate is a comprehensive matrix, providing residential, commercial and retail solutions to all strata of society.
As per the realtors' body NAREDCO, the real estate sector grew significantly in the last 10 years from a market size of $120 billion (2017) to $477 billion (2022) and with an astounding projection of $1 trillion by 2030. Analysing the dynamic trend, CREDAI, the realtors' body, predicts a similar considerable boost to the Indian economy too, attaining $1.3 trillion by 2034 and $5.17 trillion by 2047. The $300 billion Indian real estate market, divided between 80% residential and 20% commercial, is largely driven by luxury brands at the forefront followed by commercial and affordable housing, owing to the rising confidence of middle-income buyers and emergent, affordable housing schemes.
