Former Punjab director general of police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa and his wife, former state minister Razia Sultana, were booked by the Haryana Police in connection with the alleged murder of their son Aqil Akhtar last week, police said on Tuesday.

- Brijender Gaur

According to police, Akhtar ‘was brought to a hospital in an unconscious state on October 16, where doctors declared him dead. His family members had then claimed that they found him in that state at his residence in Sector 4 of the Mansa Devi Complex (MDC) in Panchkula.

Officials said that police initially did not suspect foul play in Akhtar's death and recorded the family’s statements before handing over his body to them after the postmortem examination the following day. He was cremated in their hometown of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

However, Shamshudeen Chaudhary, a resident of Malerkotla in Punjab, lodged a complaint alleging foul play in the death, citing a video posted by Akhtar on social media in August in which he expressed serious threat to his life.
