Bhupen Da bridged the gap and united NE during militancy: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday lauded the contributions of legendary singer and Bharat Ratna awardee Bhupen Hazarika, saying the late maestro and his songs played a pivotal role in uniting the people of the Northeast during a turbulent phase of militancy and neglect by the central government
Addressing a gathering during Hazarika’s 100th birth anniversary celebrations in Guwahati, Modi said, “There was a time when this part of the country was struggling with militancy and remained isolated. During that period, Bhupen Da wrote songs that bridged the gap and united people.”
The PM described Hazarika’s music as a reflection of his ideology of national unity, his deep love for the motherland, and his unwavering bond with his people. “His songs inspired not only communities across the Northeast but also touched the hearts of people across the nation,” he added.
