Bhatia seeks removal of ‘defamatory’ posts, HC says ‘be thick-skinned’

Politicians have to be thick-skinned while dealing with public criticism, the Delhi high court remarked on Tuesday, as it indicated to pass an order for the removal of alleged defamatory content on social media targeting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and senior advocate Gaurav Bhatia over his appearance on a TV debate earlier this month.
Justice Amit Bansal was hearing a defamation suit filed by Bhatia against various individuals and entities, including the Samajwadi Party media cell, journalist Abhisar Sharma, politicians Saurabh Bhardwaj and Ragini Nayak, and media outlet Newslaundry. Bhatia also sought the removal of “defamatory” content from social media over his appearance on a TV news show on September 12, where he was reportedly seen wearing a kurta “without any pants/pyjama”.
