Tackled intruder to save son, let go after repeated stabbing: Saif to cops

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan in his statement to the Mumbai police has said that he sustained injuries on his hand and back when he pounced on the intruder to protect his youngest son Jehangir at his Bandra apartment last week, a senior officer said on Friday.

In his statement recorded on Thursday, Khan, 54, informed the police that he and his actor wife Kareena Kapoor Khan were about to go to sleep after the latter returned home around 1:30 a.m. on January 16 when they heard Jehangir's nanny Junu screaming, an officer aware of the details said. "The actor couple rushed to Jehangir's bedroom after hearing the staff screaming," the officer added.

By then, however, Jehangir's nurse Elliyamma Phillips had confronted the intruder, who told her that he wanted ₹1 crore and attacked the nurse. "As the actors reached the bedroom, they saw Philips injured while Jehangir crying. Saif pounced on the intruder to protect his son - he grabbed the intruder from the front but was stabbed first on his hand and then in his back, where a broken piece of the knife got lodged. The back injury sent him into a state of shock," the officer said, citing the actor's statement.
